Ready To Party?

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Welcome to Family Cruise Port!  If you are visiting from the Ultimate Blog Party by Five Minutes For Mom here is a little bit about what this site is all about.  I post lots of information about Family Cruising!  If you are thinking of taking a cruise or planning one soon, this is a great place for some hard to find information.  I am not a travel agent, though I do link to some great agencies online.

Some of the helpful posts I have are all about each cruise line’s children’s programs.  If you are a family of 5 I have posted hard to find information about cruises that work great for your family size.

On Tuesdays I post some great Tips to help you and your family be better prepared for your cruise vacation.  Fridays are what I call Frugal Family Friday where I post some great cruise deals for families of 3 or more people.

You can learn a bit more about me: About Family Cruise Port and A Bit About Me.  Follow me on Twitter and Facebook or follow the blog via RSS!  Thanks again for stopping by!

A Bit About Me & Posting Schedule Change

Me (Kristen) and my husband, Flynn, on the NCL Spirit January 2011 in the Windows Dining Room

My name is Kristen Tregay, and I am so happy to be writing this blog about cruising for families. I am a stay at home mom to three wonderful children.  Here are a few things you might find interesting about me and my family:

  • We live on an acre in a 90 year old Victorian home in the Chicago suburbs
  • We have chickens that we raise for eggs (and sell the extras)
  • My children are Adelynn 8 years, Emilynn 5, and Presten 2.  Baby #4 is due at the end of March ’12
  • We are Christians and homeschool our children
  • We have been married for 13 years – funny side story: We were asked by some scavenger hunt participants on our cruise in January ’11 if we were the newlyweds on the ship – I guess since our kids were not with us at that moment it seemed possible.  The newlyweds were standing right next to us and did not get asked!
  • I have been selling maternity and nursing clothes for 6 years at (and Amazon) and plan to close down as soon as I sell off my inventory.
  • We are fairly frugal and try to find the best deals on cruises for ourselves.
  • I am a planner and researcher at heart and love to plan the entire vacation and often fret about finding the lowest airfare and best hotel for us.
  • We packed with only carry-ons on our last cruise (7 days plus 1 hotel night) and hope to continue this!
  • All of the cruises we have been on were from 7-11 days in length.
  • We do not drink alcohol, so that saves us a bit of money compared to others that cruise as alcohol is expensive!
  • We have stayed in inside, oceanview, and balcony cabins on our past cruises.
  • We have been on 3 cruises with kids – all with my parents (they cruise even more than us!)
  • I have gotten seasick (from slightly to staying in bed all day!) on the last 4 cruises, but I still love cruising
  • My husband and kids have never been seasick!
  • My favorite things about cruises: the food (so many choices and much more gourmet than I ever cook), the housekeeping (not having to clean!), and the evening shows.

Schedule Change:

I feel like I have gotten a fair amount of information out there (see Archives ) with blogging 6 days a week since I started and plan to slow down my blogging a bit. More For Your Money Monday is changing to Frugal Family Friday. That means I will have cruise deals on Fridays and continue Cruise Tips on Tuesdays.  I plan to blog at least 3 times a week, if not more.  It depends on how much time I have and what cruise sales are announced.

If you have any post ideas or questions please feel free to comment or email me directly at: info AT familycruiseport DOT com .  I would love more readers, so please feel free to let others know about my blog.

I hope to do some giveaways in the near future as my readership increases, so please subscribe to keep up to date. We are also on Twitter and Facebook.
